I admit that the proper uniform term may be open to interpretation and personal preference, and one definition of "smock" is, indeed, the protective garment artists wear.
However, another definition of "smock" is "a women's loose blouse-like garment, reaching to below the waist, worn over slacks, etc."
I have just one comment to make: is not a smock (that's what artists and kindergarten children wear when painting); it's a tunic.
